December 19, 2006

Well I’ve got a million things going on right now. Not anything super cool just yet, but doing the leg work that has to get done.
The TV show is proving to be harder to get going than doing Chinese math. It is coming and I promise that it won’t suck – well as much as I can promise. There are so many aspects of putting together a proper TV show that I never could have foreseen. It is all becoming painfully clear as to how much hard work goes into what we all go home, turn on the box, and mindlessly enjoy. The longer this whole process takes I believe will make the final product all that much better.

On the lighter side of all things interesting, We just got back from a desert trip, including my good friend from Hustler Clothing (just promoted to President by Larry Flynt) Eric Gullett. Now Eric, who recovering from surgery to his right leg was told by his doctor to go nowhere near a motorcycle, made the ultra-poor decision to accompany me on an expedition to find a fishin’ spot. Needless to say if you can’t see where I’m going with this, we ran out of talent at about 40 mph. nothing looks dumber than two dumbells lying in the dirt bleeding – far less than macho. Subsequently, motorcycle riding privileges were suspended and we were reduced to beer drinking, gun shooting and kiddy karting (max speed of 9 mph) for the rest of the weekend. I felt fine but Eric kept saying something about his leg hurting and busting open some stitches. I don’t know what he was talking about.

This past weekend there was a book signing at the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA. I took my two daughters there to meet Paul Grushkin – author of “Rockin Down the Highway”. It appears to be a good book with all the right ingredients. I’ve only thumbed through it as yet. Mike Ness from ‘Social Distortion’ was signing as well, he wrote the foreword for the book. A ton of people showed up for the books and autographs. A bunch of guys from the Choppers (Burbank car club), and the Sinners (Long Beach) showed up with their cars and bikes. It turned out to be a pretty good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Out with the old in with the new!

You know - Sometimes I'm really up on this blog, doin’ good and then 2 months pass and no update. So in a nutshell here’s an overview.

I took the engine out of the T/S roadster, went back to Pro Machine in Chico where John Beck and his head machinist Russ Beck (no relationship) fixed the hurt cylinder, put the motor back in and out to El Mirage for the October S.C.T.A. meet. I screwed it up by changing the pill in the injector and installed the HI-Speed return check valve in backwards. That fed the injector full juice (200 p.s.i.) when I tried to roll it on. The car blubbered down the track to a piss poor 160 mph run. I fixed it back at the pits but that was the last run for the car as Tony and I sold it to Steve Van Blarcom back east. No more T/S Roadster kids. We did however stay over Sunday nite and ran the car on our own track Monday – that made me feel better. The motor was singing a sweet tune and I know that would have been a record run for sure but, Oh Well. The film crew for the new Shine show was there and we got the good run on film. You should see it in one of the first episodes. The T/S Roadster now resides back East and the new owner Steve got the record at Maxton @ 189 and ¢ - way to go brother, keep it runnin’.

On a better note, I just bought a 1968 John Shoemaker Dragster Chassis. I’m told that Shoemaker and Kent Fuller built many chassis together. The welds and tube fit is phenomenal. I’m going to bring the car up to N.H.R.A. certification and fun will once again be mine!

Projects – I love projects. I’m thinking injected 392 Hemi on alcohol, 8.60 car for starters. I had to meet Russ @ El Mirage last weekend to pick up the car. I figured what the hell, I don’t have a car to race but I can hang in the pits with John Beck’s crew and the Brauers, my brother Ned-o and I took our bikes out. CRF 450 and homies YZ250, a little two wheel freedom machine time. Wheelies, jumps, hauling ass thru the desert - yeah now. Well that lasted about 30 minutes until my brother did an ‘Evil Kinevle’ dismount at 50 mph. I rolled up on the scene, there was shit and parts everywhere. I asked him if he was having a yard sale. He was OK but his hand was shattered. That put the Kabash on his good time. A couple of beers later and all was right with the world. Dragster now in my trailer and back to the shop. More dragster stuff to come.

Yesterday I got a call from James (Detroit Bros. Motorcycles). We hooked up at the shop, talked shop, then went off to my house. We had a few beers, good dude, thanks for stopping by.

Anyway more news to come, just waiting for the green light from the Discovery Channel so I can let the cat out of the bag.

Also check out Easyriders Magazine January ’07 issue. I’m told my Panhead is featured and the article is pretty good.

Thank you to my wife Nikki for not flipping out when I brought the Dragster home. I promised her I wouldn’t kill myself just yet.

Throw an eyeball at my website, because I am just about ready to put the body on the Todd Haas' 57 Chevy Gasser. Check out the picture.

Life’s good – I’m grinning like Ted Kennedy in a liquor store.

Quick update here, I just got back from Beaverfalls, PA. On Saturday the 23rd was the grand opening of the SO-CAL East store. This is our 9th store now and the 1st east of the Mississippi. Alex Xydias and myself were there to do the meet and greet, as well as smoke over the facility. Brian Ulanowicz and his crew also operate ‘Blades Rod Shop’ in conjunction with the SO-CAL store. The day went well with a lot of folks showing up driving some great cars. So thanx to the SO-CAL East crew for the hospitality. If ever in the area and need a part be sure to drop in and check out the facility. You’ll dig it.
